In September 2008, Shapins Belt Collins was hired by Clark County to conduct a trail study for the Goodsprings area. The planning area includes SR 161 from Jean to Goodsprings and extends to the area surrounding the historic Yellow Pine Mine. Please take a look at the study area maps by clicking on the “Maps and Displays” link on the sidebar. At this time, potential trail users include hikers, bicyclists, and equestrians.
The study will include careful analysis of the area’s natural and cultural resources in order to identify suitable trail corridors. The project will include ongoing public involvement as well as collaboration with the Goodsprings Trail Committee and Historic Society. The planning team intends to collect feedback from the public in order to develop conceptual plans for a trail system that will serve the needs of Goodsprings’ residents and enhance the rural community. We conducted our first public meeting on January 27th in Goodsprings. We had over 30 people attend and received a lot of great feedback from the group. The planning team has also completed its first analysis trip and is busy developing several alignment alternatives. These alignments will be available for review at the second public meeting. At this time, displays illustrating possible trail alignments, surfacing options, and trailhead locations will be available for review. The second public meeting is scheduled for Friday May 1 (5:30-7:00 pm) at the Goodsprings Community Center (375 W. San Pedro Ave). The meeting will be followed by an evening of BINGO and the Old Timers Reunion on Saturday and Sunday. The Three Trail Alternatives will also be available to review and comment on Saturday during the Pioneer Saloon’s Chili Cook-off as well as at the Goodsprings School. Please join us for what is sure to be a good time in Goodsprings! The three trail alignment alternatives as well as the first Findings Report can be viewed by clicking on the “Maps and Displays” link on the sidebar.
